Pittsburgh Comes Alive This Summer—And Getting To Events Can Be Half the Fun

Avoid big crowds and parking congestion this summer - ride PRT!

It’s the (unofficial) start of summer, and in Pittsburgh, the season is shaping up to be a vibrant celebration of art, culture, food, and community. From staple festivals like the Three Rivers Arts Festival and Picklesburgh to can’t-miss concerts at PNC Park and Stage AE, there’s no shortage of things to do across the city. As the weather warms up, the Golden Triangle and surrounding neighborhoods are buzzing with activities, and there’s no better way to get to the action than taking advantage of PRT’s public transportation options!

Heading to a Pirates game or a concert at PNC Park? The North Shore Connector makes it seamless to go from Downtown to the stadiums, all while avoiding traffic on the bridges. Even if your plans are more low-key, like catching an outdoor film at Schenley Park or exploring new bites at the Pittsburgh Vegan Expo, PRT makes it easy to embrace planned and spontaneous Burgh adventures. Many destinations are served by frequent bus routes or Light Rail stops.

In mid-July (11 - 13), Picklesburgh will once again transform downtown into a giant ode to everything brined and bold. Spanning two of Pittsburgh’s iconic Sister Bridges, Allegheny Landing, Fort Duquesne Boulevard, PPG Plaza, Market Square, 6th Street and Heinz Hall Garden, the 10th anniversary of the festival reflects the festival’s evolution. Massive crowds and limited parking shouldn’t deter you, though - PRT trains and buses offer stress-free travel. Similarly, the Little Italy Days in Bloomfield and the Deutschtown Music Festival on the North Side are perfect opportunities to explore Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods via public transit, with multiple bus routes providing direct access to the festivities.

To make the most of your summer in Pittsburgh, let PRT be your travel companion. Follow @PGHtransit on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook for real-time updates, route changes, and service tips. Whether you're heading to a festival or just soaking in the summer sun, PRT gets you there—conveniently, affordably, and sustainably.
