Pittsburgh, PA - Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) will begin serving two new bus stops at The Waterfront in Homestead on Sunday, June 21, preserving transit access to one of the region's largest shopping, dining, and employment destinations.

The new bus stops, constructed by The Waterfront, replace the existing stops near Target and Giant Eagle. The revised locations maintain convenient access for transit riders while addressing operational needs identified by the property owner.

“When transit access at The Waterfront was threatened last year, our priority was making sure workers, shoppers, and residents would continue to have reliable access to one of the region’s most important commercial and employment centers. I’m grateful to Pittsburgh Regional Transit, The Waterfront, and our local partners for working together to find a solution that preserves that access,” said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. “The opening of these new bus stops reflects the commitment we made to the community and the power of collaboration to deliver practical results.”

The new stop configuration is the result of months of collaboration among PRT, The Waterfront, Allegheny County officials, elected leaders, and community stakeholders to ensure customers continue to have convenient access to jobs, shopping, dining, healthcare, and other destinations within the development.

Beginning June 21:

· The bus stop near Target will become a pick-up only stop located between Giant Eagle and Target.

· The stop in front of Giant Eagle's pharmacy will relocate to the side of the building and become a drop-off only stop.

The new stops will be served by the following routes:

· 53-Homestead Park

· 53L-Homestead Park Limited

· 57-Hazelwood

· 59-Mon Valley

· 61D-Murray Short

· 64-Lawrenceville-Waterfront

"Throughout this process, our priority has been maintaining convenient access for the riders who rely on public transit to reach The Waterfront," said PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman. "We appreciate The Waterfront's willingness to work with us on a solution that keeps transit customers close to the businesses they visit while addressing the property's operational needs."

Last year, proposed changes to the bus stop locations prompted significant feedback from riders, employees, businesses, and community members concerned about preserving transit access within The Waterfront.
